STEREOFONIK – A-Tech (1994)

Stereofonik were a Malaysian electronic music act whose 1994 release A-Tech offers an interesting glimpse into the country's early 1990s dance music scene. Released by Zman Production and distributed by Sony Music, this five-track promotional EP explores the electronic pop and tech house styles associated with the era, when synthesiser-driven arrangements, programmed rhythms and club-oriented production were becoming increasingly prominent in popular music. The track listing includes "Do You Still Want To Be My Baby (B.M)", "Pasti", "Stereofonik A-Tech (Attack)", "Mind (English)" and an instrumental version of "Do You Still Want To Be My Baby". Featuring both Malay and English-language material alongside an instrumental arrangement, A-Tech reflects an attempt to combine contemporary electronic dance music with local pop sensibilities. A relatively obscure release from Malaysia's 1990s electronic music landscape, it offers collectors an opportunity to explore a lesser-documented chapter of the country's dance and pop recording history.
