ROTTEN CORPSE – Rotten Corpse (1997)

Hailing from Malang, East Java, Indonesia, Rotten Corpse emerged from the country's developing extreme metal underground during the mid-1990s, establishing themselves as one of the pioneering acts of Indonesian brutal death metal. Originally operating under the name Disgorged, the band developed a particularly aggressive sound characterised by heavily distorted guitar riffs, guttural vocals, relentless drumming and the raw brutality associated with early American death metal. Their self-titled 1997 release, issued through Malaysia's Ultra Hingax Production, was a retitled edition of their debut full-length Maggot Sickness (1996), originally released by Graveyard Productions. Featuring vocalist Aryev Gobbel, guitarist Adyth, bassist Dik and drummer Anton, the album contains ten tracks, including "Rotten Solid Brain", "Broken Hope", "Sound Bitter", "Festering Slime", "Cannibalistic Scenery", "Maggot Sickness" and "Mindless Tentacles". Combining crushing rhythmic passages, frantic blast beats and uncompromising vocal aggression, the recording reflects the influence of early brutal death metal while maintaining a distinctly primitive underground production. Often recognised as one of Indonesia's earliest full-length death metal recordings, Rotten Corpse represents an important chapter in Southeast Asian extreme metal history, particularly through its distribution beyond Indonesia into Malaysia and Singapore.
