Audrey Horne are a Norwegian hard-rock band formed in Bergen in 2002. Featuring musicians associated with acts such as Enslaved and Sahg, the band gradually moved from dark alternative metal towards energetic classic hard rock.
Twin-guitar harmonies, muscular riffs and Toschie’s melodic vocals define their later work. Listeners of Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden, Kiss and 1980s arena rock should find plenty to enjoy here.
1. Blackout (DIGIPAK)
Released in 2018, Blackout continues Audrey Horne’s celebration of classic hard rock while adding larger choruses and a polished, energetic production.
“This Is War” opens with galloping rhythms and harmonised guitars, while “Audrevolution,” “Blackout,” “Midnight Man” and “Satellite” are built for immediate impact. “Naysayer” combines Iron Maiden-style momentum with the band’s own melodic character.
The digipak edition adds “Juggernaut” and “The End” as bonus tracks, making it the more complete version of the album.
2. Le∙Fol∙
Released in 2007, Le∙Fol∙ represents Audrey Horne’s earlier and darker identity. Its sound combines hard rock with post-grunge, alternative metal and atmospheric keyboard textures.
“Last Chance for a Serenade,” “Jaws,” “Last Call” and “Threshold” deliver heavy riffs without sacrificing melody. “Monster,” “Afterglow” and “Pretty Girls Make Graves” reveal a moodier side that differs considerably from the band’s later, more celebratory records.
Recommended for listeners who prefer Audrey Horne at their most shadowy and introspective.
3. Pure Heavy (DIGIPAK)
Released in 2014, Pure Heavy expands the twin-guitar approach established on Youngblood. The title accurately describes the intention: direct, melodic hard rock with very little unnecessary decoration.
“Wolf in My Heart,” “Holy Roller,” “Out of the City” and “Volcano Girl” combine Thin Lizzy-inspired guitar harmonies with large choruses. “Tales from the Crypt” and “Boy Wonder” retain a tougher metallic edge.
The digipak includes the bonus tracks “Let Live” and “Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea.”
4. Youngblood (DIGIPAK)
Youngblood, released in 2013, marked the decisive turning point in Audrey Horne’s career. The darker alternative sound of their earlier albums gave way to warm, guitar-driven classic rock.
“Redemption Blues,” “Straight into Your Grave,” “Youngblood” and “There Goes a Lady” are filled with harmonised leads, sharp riffs and memorable choruses. “Show and Tell” and “Cards with the Devil” reinforce the album’s lively, road-ready character.
