Wednesday 13 is an American musician known for combining horror-punk imagery with glam metal, hard rock and dark humour. Before launching his solo career, he fronted Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13 and later gained wider recognition with Murderdolls.
These five CDs cover several sides of his catalogue, from raw horror punk and heavier metal to acoustic arrangements.
1. Calling All Corpses
Released in 2011, Calling All Corpses is a direct, hook-heavy horror-punk album filled with B-movie imagery.
“I Wanna Be Cremated,” “Ghoul of My Dreams,” “One Knife Stand” and the title track combine dark humour with memorable choruses. “Silver Bullets,” “London After Midnight” and “Candle for the Devil” add a heavier atmosphere.
A good starting point for listeners who enjoy his punkier and more playful side.
2. Necrophaze
Released in 2019, Necrophaze is one of Wednesday 13’s most cinematic albums, drawing heavily from early-1980s horror films.
Alice Cooper appears on the title track, while Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil joins him on “Monster.” “Bring Your Own Blood,” “Zodiac,” “Decompose” and “The Hearse” combine industrial textures with modern metal production. The album closes with a W.A.S.P. cover featuring Alexi Laiho.
Recommended for listeners who prefer his heavier material.
3. Skeletons
Released in 2008, Skeletons presents a darker and more personal side of Wednesday 13. The humour remains, but much of the album deals with isolation and self-destruction.
“Scream Baby Scream,” “Not Another Teenage Anthem” and “Gimmie Gimmie Bloodshed” deliver the immediate horror-punk energy. “From Here to the Hearse,” “My Demise” and the title track bring greater emotional weight.
One of his strongest and most serious albums.
4. The Dixie Dead
Released in 2013, The Dixie Dead combines heavy guitars, punk hooks and a Southern gothic atmosphere.
“Blood Sucker,” “Get Your Grave On,” “Too Fast for Blood” and the title track are immediate concert-ready songs. “Curse the Living,” “Ghost Stories” and “Carol Anne… They’re Here” strengthen the supernatural theme.
A lively release that bridges his punk and metal sides.
5. Undead Unplugged (Limited-Edition Digipak)
Released in 2014, Undead Unplugged strips familiar songs down to acoustic guitars, keyboards and vocals.
The collection includes “Haunt Me,” “Nowhere,” “Morgue Than Words,” “Curse of Me,” “Welcome to the Strange” and “Ghost Stories.” It also revisits material from Murderdolls and Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13.
An unusual companion to the heavier albums and a worthwhile digipak for collectors.
