Saor is the atmospheric black metal project of Scottish musician Andy Marshall. Formed in 2013, it combines black metal with Celtic folk instruments, traditional melodies and a deep connection to Scotland’s history and landscapes.

2. Aura (Northern Silence Productions)
Released in 2014, Aura established the musical language that would define Saor.

Released in 2016, Guardians expands the approach of Aura with stronger folk instrumentation and a more cinematic scale.
The title track, “The Declaration,” “Autumn Rain,” “Hearth” and “Tears of a Nation” each exceed ten minutes. Fiddle, bagpipes and bodhrán are woven naturally into the metal arrangements rather than used as decoration.

Released in 2022, Origins is more direct and riff-driven than Aura or Guardians. The songs are shorter, the production is heavier and the folk elements appear within tighter structures.
“Call of the Carnyx” opens with a ceremonial atmosphere, while “Fallen,” “The Ancient Ones” and “Beyond the Wall” combine forceful riffs with Scottish melodies. “Aurora” offers a more expansive journey before the title track closes the album.
