HOLOCAUSTO – War Metal Massacre (2016)

Formed in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in 1985, Holocausto were among the pioneering bands of the notoriously savage Brazilian extreme metal underground, alongside Sarcófago, Sepultura, Mutilator and Chakal. Their early recordings, particularly the controversial debut Campo de Extermínio (1987), helped establish the primitive, chaotic and uncompromising sound that would influence subsequent generations of black, death and war metal bands. Originally released in 2016 through Nuclear War Now! Productions, War Metal Massacre marked a deliberate return to the band's earliest musical identity, reuniting the classic line-up of Rodrigo Führer, Valério Exterminator, Anderson Guerrilheiro and Nedson Warfare. Featuring tracks such as "Massacre", "Destruição Nuclear", "Escarro Napalm", "Eu Sou a Guerra", "Corpo Seco" and the title track, the EP delivers a relentless assault of distorted guitar riffs, frantic drumming, guttural vocals and raw, abrasive production. Its sound recalls the violent intensity of Brazil's mid-1980s black/death/thrash movement, favouring primitive aggression over modern technical sophistication. War Metal Massacre stands as a convincing revival of Holocausto's original ferocity, capturing the atmosphere of an era when the boundaries between thrash, death and black metal were still being forged in the underground.
