HOLOCAUSTO – Diário De Guerra (2019)
Formed in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in 1985, Holocausto were among the pioneering forces of the country's notoriously raw extreme metal underground, alongside Sarcófago, Sepultura, Mutilator and Chakal. Their 1987 debut Campo de Extermínio became a cult recording of the early Brazilian black/death/thrash movement, notorious for its primitive production, chaotic aggression and controversial war imagery. Released in 2019 through Nuclear War Now! Productions, Diário De Guerra (Portuguese for War Diary) marked the band's sixth full-length album and continued the return to their original musical identity initiated with War Metal Massacre. Recorded in September 2018 with their original line-up, the album delivers approximately 30 minutes of raw, uncompromising blackened death/thrash metal, driven by abrasive guitar riffs, frantic drumming, harsh vocals and a deliberately old-school atmosphere. Songs such as "Holocausto", "Refugiados / Solução Final", "Zona de Conflito (Faixa de Gaza)", "Guerra Total Apocalipse", "Diário de Guerra" and "Pelotão da Morte" maintain the band's longstanding thematic focus on warfare, destruction and human suffering. Rather than embracing contemporary extreme metal's technical precision and polished production, Diário De Guerra remains firmly connected to the primitive violence of the Brazilian underground, offering a continuation of the sound that established Holocausto's reputation more than three decades earlier.
