(Used) HELLOWAR Hellowar CASSETTE TAPE Punk, Hardcore, Doom Metal
HELLOWAR – Hellowar (2006)
Formed in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 2005, Hellowar emerged from the city's DIY hardcore punk underground, featuring musicians associated with bands such as Proletar, Tanpa Batas and Tersanjung 13. Developing a powerful mixture of metallic crust punk, Scandinavian D-beat hardcore and blackened metal influences, the band became recognised for their apocalyptic atmosphere, harsh vocals, aggressive drumming and dark, melodic guitar arrangements. Their self-titled debut release, originally issued in 2006, captures the raw foundations of a sound that would later evolve into the heavier, more sophisticated approach heard on On the March to the Final Doom (2009). Musically, Hellowar draw comparisons with bands such as Tragedy, His Hero Is Gone, Wolfbrigade and Skitsystem, combining relentless hardcore aggression with ominous melodies, driving rhythms and occasional slower, doom-influenced passages. Their Indonesian-language lyrics and uncompromising underground identity further distinguish them within Southeast Asia's crust punk movement. Hellowar represents an early chapter in the history of one of Jakarta's notable neo-crust bands, whose recordings continued to circulate internationally even after their dissolution in 2012.
