DEATH OF MILLIONS – Frozen (1999)

Formed in Austin, Texas, in 1994, Death of Millions were an American technical brutal death metal band known for combining the aggression of traditional death metal with complex arrangements, intricate guitar work and demanding rhythmic structures. Released in 1999 through Dies Irae Productions, Frozen was their debut full-length album, developed from material originally recorded for their 1997 demo of the same name. Featuring vocalist Chuck Salvo, guitarists Brian Morrison and Lee Ribera, bassist Brendon Bigelow and drummer Mark Perry, the album delivers 13 tracks of intense, technically oriented death metal, including "Abortion Retrieval", "Empty Shell Relief", "No Excuse", "Death Is the Love Drug", "Salvational Rot", "The Feasting", "Majestic Black" and "Ceremonial Rites". The album also features a cover of Twisted Sister's "Burn in Hell", reinterpreting the heavy metal classic within the band's extreme musical framework. Combining brutal guitar riffs, guttural vocals, aggressive drumming and extended compositions, Frozen reflects the increasingly technical direction of American underground death metal during the late 1990s. It remains an obscure but interesting recording from the Texas extreme metal scene, preceding the band's second and final studio album, Statistics and Tragedy (2003).
