Released as a single from 18 Til I Die, “Let’s Make a Night to Remember” is one of Bryan Adams’ most sensual and atmospheric ballads. Instead of building towards an oversized power-ballad climax, the song maintains a slower, intimate mood.
The Japanese CD single also includes “Star,” the original demo of “Rock Steady” and “Hey Little Girl,” giving it more value than a standard one-track release.
A worthwhile Japanese pressing for Bryan Adams collectors, even without the OBI, and an interesting companion to the 18 Til I Die album.
3. Waking Up the Neighbours
Released in 1991, Waking Up the Neighbours was one of the biggest albums of Bryan Adams’ career. Co-written and produced with Mutt Lange, it gave his straightforward rock sound a larger, more polished production.
The centrepiece is “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You,” the worldwide hit featured in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. However, the album offers much more than that one song.
“Can’t Stop This Thing We Started,” “Thought I’d Died and Gone to Heaven,” “Do I Have to Say the Words?” and “There Will Never Be Another Tonight” show Adams moving confidently between arena rock and power ballads.
For anyone wanting one Bryan Adams album that captures both sides of his music, Waking Up the Neighbours is essential.
