LOVE AND ROCKETS – Love And Rockets (1989)
Formed in England in 1985 by former Bauhaus members Daniel Ash, David J and Kevin Haskins, Love And Rockets established their own musical identity by combining post-punk, gothic rock, psychedelia and glam rock with a more accessible alternative rock sound. Their self-titled fourth album, released in 1989, marked a shift towards a harder, more guitar-driven approach, incorporating blues influences, atmospheric textures and infectious rhythms while retaining the band's distinctive dark undertones. The album features their biggest commercial success, "So Alive", a seductive, groove-oriented track that reached No. 3 on the US Billboard Hot 100, alongside the driving "Motorcycle", the hypnotic "No Big Deal", the blues-influenced "Bound for Hell" and the atmospheric "Rock and Roll Babylon". Moving beyond the folk and psychedelic tendencies of their earlier recordings, Love And Rockets captures a band exploring the intersection of alternative rock, gothic sensibilities and classic rock 'n' roll, making it one of their most commercially significant releases.
